We’ve looked at the cultural context of the Old Testament in its own time. But have you ever considered the impact of this part of the Bible on the civilizations of the world after it was written? It’s almost impossible to imagine our world without its influence. The two largest religions in the world, Christianity and Islam, grew out of this monotheistic tradition. Think about politics and economics, philosophy and ethics, literature, art and film.
We’re about to begin an honest survey of what people have done with their Bible, and it’s not all going to be pretty. But it is all part of looking at how people through the ages have been inspired and impacted by the Old Testament.
