Since Seth, one side of the family line in Genesis has been faithful and favored. From that line Abraham now enters center stage. Are we ready to meet this larger-than-life ancestor? Will we follow him as he follows a God who only rarely speaks? Will we compromise like him to save our skin or even to try to help God keep a promise? Will we be willing to sacrifice an “Isaac”?

We’re about to encounter Abraham as a man of his times, yet also as a man for all times. We will continue to encounter our mysterious God who reveals Himself in profound yet bewildering ways.

Let’s walk down the road of discipleship with the ancestor who was asked to leave his family and homeland for an unknown destination and only a promise that “I will be with you.”
