Because of these echoes from the Psalms in other Old Testament passages, we’ll hear Athanasius of Alexandria, an early Christian bishop, describe the Psalms as “a garden of scripture that sets it to music.” They stand between us and many other Bible stories as an accessible collection of biblical feelings, attitudes and truth. In the Psalms we hear the voice of Moses, the prophets, the priests and kings like David and Solomon.
