Isaiah was more than a prophet to Judah. He was a prophet to the nations. He called them to account for their idolatry and for how they treated God’s people. He also described a day when the nations would join Israel’s worship of YHWH.

Isaiah had a timely message for his generation. He helped frame the messianic expectations that would still be present in Jesus’ time, centuries later. Israel’s purification would accompany the arrival of the Light of the World.

Now it’s time to explore his immediate context to see just what it really meant to be faithful to YHWH at a critical moment in history.
