Zephaniah’s image of rejoicing with God in exile and oppression will become a popular theme in the New Testament, and especially the early church. Zephaniah’s message parallels the message of the New Testament writers, where saints are urged to rejoice even in their suffering and period of waiting for the glory to come.

The icon above, therefore, reminds us of how the exiles came to sing again and how we too can sing and rejoice in the midst of trial and suffering.
