Have you ever felt compelled to tell a friend something you knew they needed to hear but would hate to hear—something they would blame you for saying . . . even though it was for their own good? If you’ve been in that situation, then you can begin to understand the experience of Jeremiah. He was called to bring a disturbing and almost unthinkable message to Jerusalem during a time of intense pressure by the Babylonians. Although he had some hopeful predictions, we all would probably have called him a false prophet.
