The lecture above noted some of the difficult language we encounter in Ezekiel. Read some passages below from Ezekiel 16 and 23. 

Besides all your abominations and harlotries you did not remember the days of your youth, when you were naked and bare and squirming in your blood. Ezekiel 16:22 NASB

 

(Jerusalem) uncovered her harlotries and uncovered her nakedness; then I became disgusted with her. Ezekiel  23:18 NASB

 

I will set My jealousy against you, that they may deal with you in wrath. They will remove your nose and your ears. Ezekiel 23:25 NASB

 

(Jerusalem) lusted after their paramours, whose flesh is like the flesh of donkeys and whose issue is like the issue of horses. Ezekiel 23:20 NASB

Difficult Passages in Ezekiel

In abusive situations, tact is a luxury you can’t always afford, like when people are murdering children in the name of other gods or are entrenched in sexual sin. Ezekiel uses the theme of blood and sexually explicit images to get through to them. He deliberately uses shocking language to draw the people’s attention to the correspondingly shocking nature of their own behavior.
