With almost twenty percent of our world’s population, China is a large mission field. This course presents a history of Protestant Christianity in China from 1949-1992, tracing the development of the church within the context of modern Chinese history. Learners examine the influence of politics on religious and church life, and study the Party’s influence upon both the Three-Self Patriotic Movement and the independent house churches. The course begins with a discussion of church and state relations and concludes with spiritual lessons learned from Chinese history. Students are encouraged to appreciate the tremendous needs and opportunities in China, and to reflect on how God might use them for Chinese ministry.

There is a lot that foreigners as outsiders do not know about China. Or we may know some facts but not the full picture. Thus we make the right observations but the wrong conclusions. It is helpful to hear how a Chinese analyzes the tears and tribulations of the Church in his own country. This series has great value, not only for Christian missionaries and local church workers in China, but also for the thinking and praying Christian, who has a world vision, and desires to think through and to pray through how church should be done around the world.
