During the lecture, I felt that I appreciate the forest in which I just wander. I have learned that Sermon on the Mount is divided into 8 sections: (1) 9 beatitudes, (2) salt and light, (3) thesis, (4) 6 antitheses, (5) 3 examples of true vs. hypocritical piety, (6) 3 examples of wealth vs. worry, (7) 3 examples of how to treat others, and (8) 3 concluding illustrations. I will re-read the gospel later as the lecturer guides.

that it was actually given in a formulitic way so as to lead followers down a well laid path

The entire breakdown of the Sermon on the Mount was not something I had previously heard when learning more about the Beatitudes. It is all very well organized when showed this way.

I learned that Matthew has a very different, yet strategic organization to it. I didn’t realize that in my readings of the gospels in the past. The book of Matthew really shows us a lot of Jesus’ teachings as he moved from place to place. I think that if we want to know what God wants us to do, and the way he wants us to live…the book of Matthew could be a very good start!
