The gospel of Matthew is well organized. Its objectives is to present Jesus greater than the Law and Moses. Jesus was teaching with authority. Therefore, after His teachings, His ten miracles are presented in just two chapters.

I learned that Jesus wants us to live “countercultural”—that’s why He taught of the Beatitudes and from the Sermon on the Mount.

I learn that it was interesting to hear that there was nine Beatitudes and that the 5 key messages was occupied in a full chapter. It is amazing to me to see, that from reading the bible many years ago, I can see a new picture, and new information that will expand my knowledge more about the teachings of Jesus.

I always thought, in my studies, that there were only eight beatitudes. The Instructor states that there are nine beatitudes, so Im eager to learn the ninth. Dr. Bloomberg also states that Jesus teaching were “…countercultural values” to the world of His day…” I agree with that statement, reflecting on such things as the poor being blessed, pray for your enemies, etc. But I believe Jesus teachings were not simply countercultural, but were purely Spirit. A reflection of the Kingdom-minded citizen. Not so much a cultural issue, but a Kingdom one.

For me, it was such a great visual of Jesus standing there with all these people-teaching them all one by one, they soaked it all in out of amazement and wonder. It left them wanted to not just know of him, but to truly KNOW him.
