Philemon is a one-chapter book with an oversized impact on its readers. After all, it’s the only book devoted to the topic of slavery in the Bible. Paul is very invested in how a former slave owner—who has a church in his home—is going to deal with a runaway slave who has now become a brother

Keep that idea of brother in mind. Paul’s idea of the Christian community has a lot to do with what they all knew a family was meant to be.
