The amount of similarity between Jude and 2 Peter makes it unlikely that they were written completely independent of one another. The likeliest explanations for their similarity include:

1) Jude influenced Peter.

2) Peter influenced Jude.

3) They were both influenced by a common source or tradition that we no longer have access to.

Most scholars believe Jude to be a direct source for 2 Peter. Read 2 Peter 2:3-10 and Jude 5-7.

  1. Summarize common messages in the two passages.
