Lesson Objectives
When you complete this lesson, you should be able to:
- Provide a logical rationale for the order of the epistles in the New Testament canon.
- Describe the standard structure of most Greco-Roman letters of the 1st century.
- Give evidence for the dating of the book of Galatians particularly in relationship to the Jerusalem Council.
- Explain why the book of Galatians is called an apologetic letter.
- List and explain Paul’s four arguments supporting his thesis that justification is by faith and not by works.
Personal Reflection
As you proceed through this lesson have the following question in mind.
Describe Paul’s rationale for each of the three main sections of his letter to the Galatian church. How does his progression of thought help to present a convincing argument?
