They are hymns and poetry written during OT times expressing despair and hope in God.

I find the psalms very encouraging especially in times of crisis. its a book that I can turn to find a word of wisdom when I am down in the dumps, it reminds me of God’s faithfulness and His enduring love and brings me a lot of comfort. I like the honesty (for lack of a better word) of the book, the way some writers express their feelings of anger, bitterness, fear, and also a longing to draw near to God. I have many favourites in the Psalms, it depends on what the situation is in my life. Over the last couple of years, Psalm 139 has been very meaningful to me, its very comforting. I have never really studied the Psalms or focus much on the poetry in the book. I would like to explore the book a little more instead of just reading.

Prior to enrolling in this course, I viewed Psalms as being one of the most important chapters or books in the Bible. Besides Proverbs, as well as Matthew, Psalms give us the Lord’s words in the form of poetry, or even a form of Shakespeare philosophy in order for us to hear what God is speaking in the Spirit. When in Church, or the House of the Lord, Psalms is referenced in many sermons to shed light on God’s True Words on how to navigate through our daily lives. We can look at the beginning in Psalms 1 when it states “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night”-Psalm 1:1-2. BLESSED is the first word in the beginning of Psalms. As long as we continue to Walk in the Spirit and follow the Path God has for us, we should always remain Blessed.

From my understanding, the Psalms are just different poems written throughout the Old Testament.

I had the view that the Psalms were an incredible wealth of comfort in times of troubles while also being beautifully written words of praise to our Heavenly Father

Reading with Imagination. I am anxious to learn more about what that means,
-
I never knew that Psalms were considered the book of poetry so im excited to learn more

I always approach the Psalms on a personal level. This is the first time I’ve heard you can approach the Psalm on a societal level. For good or evil. I will pray the Holy Spirit gives me, and all of us who take this study, discernment.

No, I have not thought about the difference in interpreting the poetry in the Bible based on the genres. I know that scholars struggle with how they interpret the word and the method they use in doing it.

The idea that literature that has been written with imagination must be read with imagination is a new way for me to think about reading the Psalms. I’m not sure that I have read them with imagination in the past, so I’m excited to have this new perspective!
