The fact that Jerusalem stands at the center of Israel was important in biblical times because it served to unite the people and provide a sense of nationhood. The capitol city of any nation becomes a symbol of that nation and is intimately connected to its people and heritage. Jerusalem symbolizes and “tells the story” of God’s relationship to His chosen people, and through them, to all the peoples of the Earth.
