Have you ever wondered why it took so long for Pharaoh to let God’s people go? Or why God chose the ten plagues to humble this arrogant ruler? Every one of the plagues would be terrifying, but this is an apocalyptic sequence beyond imagination or coincidence. Was it just about terror, about shock and awe?
In this lesson we’ll see something much more precise at work: the God of the universe dismantling a mythical worldview before the eyes of the supposedly divine king whose job it was to hold it all together. It was judgment on this king and his gods, communicated in terms that were sometimes subtle and sometimes clear.
But beyond that judgment, something else is going on for the sake of God’s people … and for us. So let’s get started and make sure we don’t miss anything.
