Do you remember the “Four I’s” of the prophets? The one we called “insurance” is a big one in the first part of Isaiah. We could think of it as an extension of idolatry. Two kings need to trust the King of Heaven instead of alliances with the world’s imperial powers. 

So, how did they do? One gives in right away. The other starts well—trusting YHWH in one of the most dramatic scenes of the Old Testament. But we’ll watch him in his final act open the royal treasury to a kingdom that will one day destroy Jerusalem. 

Let’s see how all of this might have relevance to living by faith today.
