You could say the simple message of Isaiah is that YHWH alone is King. Still we find Judah trusting other gods and making alliances with other kings . . . gods and kings that are imposters. 

And yet, to be fair, on the ground it seems ironic to worship the God of Israel when pagan nations are conquering everyone around them and their gods get the credit.

This gets at what faith is all about, right? We live in a way that either doesn’t make sense to our Creator and King, or it doesn’t make sense to those who worship themselves and their own gods. The prophets put these choices in bold relief.
