You’ve no doubt heard some great messianic passages from Isaiah. Like “a virgin shall conceive” and “unto us a son is given” and “prepare in the desert a way for the Lord.” Now we know a little more about the original context for these promises—the challenge to trust God in the face of the overwhelming power of invading Assyrians. But Isaiah provides hope with a much bigger horizon. Another “exodus” that will bring a renewed covenant.

And yet this promise comes with two distinct kinds of expectation for the messiah who will bring this new covenant.

All of this is wrapped in layers of promise we can begin to open right now.
