Righteousness will be his belt
and faithfulness the sash around his waist.

Isaiah 11:5 NIV

He put on righteousness as his breastplate,
and the helmet of salvation on his head;
he put on the garments of vengeance
and wrapped himself in zeal as in a cloak.

Isaiah 59:17 NIV

How beautiful on the mountains
are the feet of those who bring good news,
who proclaim peace,
who bring good tidings,
who proclaim salvation,
who say to Zion,
“Your God reigns!”

Isaiah 52:7 NIV

He made my mouth like a sharpened sword,
in the shadow of his hand he hid me;
he made me into a polished arrow
and concealed me in his quiver.

Isaiah 49:2 NIV

Many prominent New Testament themes or ideas are based in Isaiah. Let’s look at the “Armor of God” from Paul’s letter to the Ephesians.

  1. Read Ephesians 6:11-17. Compare Paul’s “Armor of God” section with passages from Isaiah above. (Isaiah 11:5, 59:17, 52:7, 49:2). Record your findings in your workbook.
