When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;
when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,
and the flame shall not consume you.

Isaiah 43:2 ESV

The people’s vulnerability to the wrathful and consuming fire of YHWH will be replaced by YHWH’s “pastoral” protection and security. The people will be cleansed and not overwhelmed with water; they will “walk through” the fire that scorches their enemies but they will not be burned. This invulnerability reflects the mightiness and greatness of their Messiah, “the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior” (Isaiah 43:3 ESV).
