There are words and phrases that curiously appear mainly in Isaiah 1–39 or 40–66, and there are phrases that appear across the whole book. Let’s look at one example of each. 

First, let’s look at the use of the Hebrew word ga’al in the book, which is often translated “redeem.” It appears 24 times in Isaiah, but with only 1 occurrence in the first 39 chapters (35:9). See the table below. 

In contrast, the phrase “the Holy One of Israel” shows up widely throughout the whole book of Isaiah. See the table below.
