In this lesson we are about to meet a person who may be as important to the formation of the Old Testament as anyone, apart from Moses. Ezra was a scribe—a scholar of the Bible and skilled in its interpretation. 

That was a well-respected role in ancient Israel, but it came with severe consequences to a community living outside the boundaries of the Torah.
