Jealousy and bitterness are not only a family thing. These feelings often show up in the workplace or among peers from school. Edom didn’t get the best land, or the land they wanted, but they did get land, given by YHWH, which is more than most other people could claim.

The old saying popularized by the Rolling Stones, “You can’t always get what you want,” is true even when it comes to gifts from God. But God always provides for us. What we receive may not match all of our hopes and dreams, or even what God gives others. However, it remains ours to be grateful for and to steward. Edom wanted someone else’s inheritance, and lost their own inheritance in the process.
