Lesson Overview
Why did Moses choose to tell the story of Abraham the way he did? What does it mean for us today? This course provides an analysis of Genesis 11:10-25:18, the life of Abraham, from a Christian perspective. It analyzes the literary structure, the meaning for the original audience, and modern application for us today. The course is based on the Third Millennium DVD series by Dr. Richard L. Pratt, Jr.
Lesson Objectives
When you complete this lesson, you should be able to:
- Express their own thoughts regarding the importance of understanding the original meaning of the story of Abraham
- Identify the practical significance of the story of Abraham for Israel as they prepared to enter the Promised Land
- Discern ways in which Moses was making connections between “that world” and “their world,” especially how he made use of the background of the life of Abraham, how he made use of Abraham as a model, and how he used “foreshadows” from the life of Abraham in order to influence Israel at that time
- Show ways in which they have applied the teachings of the lesson to their lives
Personal Reflection
As you proceed through this lesson have the following question in mind.
Like Abraham’s failure with Hagar, at times we justify our own plans instead of following God’s plan. In what situations are you tempted to do this?
