Lesson Overview

This course provides an analysis of Genesis 1-11, looking at the background, the literary structure, the original meaning, the theological purpose, and modern applications. Why did Moses choose to tell the history of the Creation, the Fall, the Great Flood, and the Tower of Babel in the way that he did? It is based on the Third Millennium DVD series by Dr. Richard L. Pratt, Jr.

Lesson Objectives

When you complete this lesson, you should be able to:

  • Express their thoughts and attitudes regarding temptation, sin, and the consequences of the Fall
  • Identify the literary structure of Genesis 2:4-3:34, the changes that occurred after the Fall, and the probable geographical location of the Garden of Eden
  • Explain the practical significance of the account in this passage for Israel as they prepared to enter the Promised Land
  • Show how they have applied the teachings of the lesson to their lives

For the Israelites, the land of Canaan was a mere shadow of what Eden had originally been. Moses held before the Israelites the vision of what their land could be one day. What vision of the Promised Land should modern believers embrace? Why?
