Most readers sympathize with the disciples when they asked Jesus, “Explain to us the parable that you spoke.” This course surveys various methods of interpreting Jesus’ parables and offers an eclectic model that draws upon the best insights of each. Dr. Blomberg’s semi-allegorical model is then applied to each of the major narrative parables in the Gospels. This course examines differences among parallel accounts, and suggests plausible reasons for the variations. Learners are encouraged to apply the conclusions about the theology and significance of Jesus’ parables to their life and ministry.

Revelation is not the right word. When I read all that was presented in the 24 lecture stack, doors have been opened for me. Late in my life regrettably, but nevertheless I believe better late than never. So much I understand better now than ever before. So much to relate and convey to everyone I meet and eager to learn.

I didn't realize how little I knew about the parables until I took this course.

When taking this course on the Parables of Jesus I found it quite interesting about things that were unfamiliar to me, but the professor read quite slowly, so I liked to get the transcript and had time to read it before the audio was finished. it would probably be of benefit to actually see the teacher as he speaks. I believe this would draw the attention of the students to actually see and hear simultaneously.

Although I enjoyed learning many new things about Jesus' parables through Dr. Bomberg's course I was somewhat concerned about his teaching about the use of certain modern secular interpretive approaches (which arose from 19th century European rationalism) such as source criticism which reflect a somewhat more liberal, speculative and skeptical view of the bible that is based on human reason rather than on God's special revelation as revealed in scripture. The skeptical approach to biblical truth flies in the face of a number of biblical scriptures which affirm the doctrines of biblical inspiration and inerrancy.
