While walking the roads of the Holy Land, Jesus often taught His followers lessons that would come down to us through God’s Word. But from our perspective—in our very different time and place—many of the Lord’s allusions to the surrounding landscape have been lost. In this seven-lesson course, Dr. John (Jack) Beck highlights how the land provided talking points both to the original disciples and to us today. The video series is provided by Our Daily Bread Ministries.
- Understand the geography of places like Bethlehem, Nazareth, Nain, Shunem, the Gihon Spring, Jerusalem, the Decapolis, Dan, Caesarea Philippi, and Mount Arbel and how their geography gives deeper meaning to the events that occurred there.
- Identify connections between several Bible stories and describe how the geography of the land helps make these connections.
- Gain a new perspective on familiar Bible stories through understanding the geographical significance of their locations.
-
Like an "Indiana Jones" with hat in place, Dr. Beck brings us on adventures to places where Jesus had been to tell the stories that had gone before. This is a definitely a visual feast and an accessible course for all. Certain portions of it replicate the other two courses on "The Holy Land" though.

Loved this course. Love learning about the geography and the people and their customs.
-
I enjoyed the correlation between the stories of the Old and New Testaments, as well as how geography played a part in the events.
-
What a wonderful course!

Dr Beck is a true spirit of encouragement to deepen one's understanding of the messages from the Bible, and especially the huge importance of having faith in the One True God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

I loved this course. I so enjoy learning about the stories of Jesus and how they connect to the geographical landscape, and also how they are often a repeat of an earlier event in the Old Testament portion of Scripture.

Mount Arbel as the site of the Sermon of the Mount??? I could not find any reference to it any where!?
-
Really interesting talks - thank you. And wonderful to see actual places and landscapes which throw new light on events. I'd never considered the significance of the places Jesus chose for specific events & teaching. It will be something I consider from here on.

Author drew some conclusions regarding Biblical events (i.e Sermon on Mount delivered from Mount Arbel, Jesus referring to rock ridge that Caesarea Phillip built along as the rock upon which His church would be built upon, etc.) that the Bible doesn't fully authenticate. So he in essence represents as being a fact, that which one can at best assume but not verify.

A real eye-opener. Not what I expected. Too much church learning without much perspective. Really excited. Best course so far. Teacher went out of his way to relate both verbally and visually.
