    1. slightly off topic, but the blessings and woes format ties back to the Old Testament where God told people if you follow my commandment, you will be blessed. If not, look out.
    2. Proves the point that Scripture does not contradict Scripture. Matthew and Luke passages may or may not have been from the same sermon, and while worded slightly different, they state the same principles.
    3. Beatitudes are meant for Christ’s disciples.

I liked the statement by the lecturer that Jesus is not partial to the poor but, in my opinion he knows and empathizes with all heartaches and woes. The woes are something we bring on ourselves by not following the teachings of Christ and that speaks volumes to me.

Honestly, I’m a little confused and need further study.

There are similarities and differences between the two accounts. Luke’s would seem to be more personalized, using “you” rather than “those”. Luke’s account also would seem at first to lack the spiritual side of the message. But if the reader looks at the conclusion of both parts, the blessings and the woes, the spiritual side can be seen with the mention of “The Son of Man” and the phrase concerning how the ancestors treated false prophets. I hadn’t been aware of this parallel account in Luke until this course, and I found it interesting to compare the two.

The contents of both passages seen together has confirmed even more that God blesses. To be blessed we have a clear “map”, prescription of what we need to be doing every day, every moment of our lives.
