Imagine you were a follower of Jesus in the late first century, when very few copies of New Testament writings existed. You may be under pressure from family members who regularly worship at the local temple. You may be ostracized from your childhood friends. You might even be facing persecution from local authorities including: arrest, beatings, blacklisted form labor guilds, etc.

  1. If living in the first century and you could have a copy of only one Gospel, Epistle or other New Testament book, which one would you choose
  1. In one sentence, why would it be meaningful to you?
  1. Is this the same book you would choose in the context of your contemporary life? Why would you pick the same or a different book than if you were in a first century context?
