It turns out James is not only echoing the Old Testament. He’s firmly grounded in concepts from the Gospels. That’s all the more reason to make sure we fully appreciate the importance of both faith and works. 

The New Testament continues to keep us from going to extremes, especially around this tension. We’ll find our next author, John, to be every bit as concerned about true faith.
