Among other things, the language of “abiding” in these passages (see previous workbook exercise) is, as we saw in 1 John, a distinctive Johannine emphasis. We’re reminded again in 2 John that the gospel is not something we accept or affirm outside of ourselves. We live within it, and it lives within us, involving us in the eternal life of the Trinity.
