While other Bible authors describe “speaking” or “understanding” in the truth, John is the only one who talks about being in the truth in this way, of acting in the truth in some way: “love in truth” (2 John 1:1 NASB) or “sanctified in truth” (John 17:19 NASB). We’re reminded in 3 John’s references to “walking in the truth” that Christianity is simply “living in the truth,” which can also be described as “living in Christ” who is “the Truth” (John 14:6).
