Another distinctive Gnostic belief was that the real problem with humanity wasn’t sin but ignorance. The solution to this problem wasn’t holiness but rather spiritual insight. The deeds of the body, being physical, were already wicked by the mere fact of being physical, so redeeming them by physical discipline was not a major concern.
