  1. While the book of Revelation is at once a letter, prophecy and apocalypse, it also includes a significant amount of material belonging to yet another genre. Read the following passages and identify this fourth genre.
  • Revelation 5:12
  • Revelation 18:22-23
  • Revelation 7:17
Another Genre in the Book of Revelation

The bulk of the Bible’s poetry is found in the Old Testament, most notably in the Wisdom Literature (Psalms, Song of Songs, Ecclesiastes, etc.), but Revelation features a sizable portion of poetry of its own. More than half of Revelation’s twenty-two chapters feature poetry, and chapters 18 and 19 are largely composed of poetic proclamations.
