In Genesis 3:15 we encounter this image of Eve’s offspring “crushing the head” of the serpent. This image has parallels in Egyptian mythology that might surprise us. Let’s join our guide in an Egyptian tomb from the New Kingdom period and take a closer look. Remember that parallels don’t necessarily imply a kind of plagiarism in one direction or the other. The common elements are often used quite intentionally in the Bible to challenge the pagan worldview.
