Many parallels can be found between Psalms and passages in the Old Testament prophetic books we will examine in our next study. The table below has an example from Psalm 51.

Psalm 51 (ESV)Prophets (ESV)
For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment. (Ps 51:3-4 ESV)For our transgressions are multiplied before you, and our sins testify against us; for our transgressions are with us, and we know our iniquities: transgressing, and denying the LORD, and turning back from following our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart lying words. (Is 59:12-13 ESV)
Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me. (Ps 51:5 ESV)Let us lie down in our shame, and let our dishonor cover us. For we have sinned against the LORD our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even to this day, and we have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God. (Jer 3:25 ESV)
Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
(Ps 51:6-10 ESV)
I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleanness, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. (Ezek 36:25-26 ESV)
