Paul emphasizes Christ’s role as a collective representative for Israel and the nations. Paul describes the Lord’s redeeming death and resurrection as something many will not believe or understand. 

John makes a similar connection in three passages in the table below. He emphasizes not only the fact that Jesus will “take away the sins of the world,” but also that many would not believe.
