We’ve had a chance to join our spiritual ancestors in their journey of faith in many lessons. Sometimes they’ve been trusting God for deliverance, like Hezekiah before Sennacherib. Sometimes they’ve been waiting for their enemies to be judged, like Nahum’s community. Our next prophet will voice the kind of criticism for God that usually comes when we think we are suffering unjustly. They will cry out, “How long?” In the case of Habakkuk’s congregation, they might have accepted the discipline . . . but at the hands of the pagan empire Babylon?! To this inexplicable choice, they cried, like Job, “WHY?!” We might even paraphrase that, “REALLY?!”

Get ready for a disturbing, finger-pointing interaction between God and His prophet. This lesson will create some new understanding for the idea that “the just will live by faith.”
