Can you imagine putting your most intense emotion into an acrostic poem? We looked at this phenomenon when we were studying the Psalms. Now we’ll look at a 5-chapter book made up of A to Z poems all about the devastation of the Exile. 

The book of Lamentations is not only a collection of laments for mourning exiles. Like Jeremiah, it’s also a book of hope. Hope in the ashes of the most unimaginable suffering. But that’s also where we’ll find the “unthinkable question.” 

Let’s watch how our ancestors could begin to make sense of their worst nightmare . . . with the help of the Hebrew alphabet.
