While Lamentations shares many themes with the prophetic books, it’s not considered one. Rather, it’s a series of “lamentations” or mourning poems over the tragic fate of Jerusalem. The destruction of Jerusalem is referenced in Jeremiah and 2 Kings, but Lamentations offers a unique perspective on this event.
