Behind | Signet Rings in the Ancient World

For our symbol, we’ve used an image of a type of ring you would recognize. However, the signet rings of Persian rulers resembled small cylinders worn like a sleeve on their finger, likely the pinky. Rulers would roll their finger on the surface of wet clay to make a panoramic relief.

These rings were arguably an ancient ruler’s most important accessory. They were used to authorize documents as law. Everything sealed in this way was legally binding. Seals authorized a variety of initiatives, from economic to military. And as with Zerubbabel, they also authorized payment of funds and legal judgments.
