It’s the second year of the reign of Persian King Darius, and God has chosen to speak through Haggai and Zechariah. Both of them point to Zerubbabel and Joshua. One is a godly Davidic governor and the other is a priest from the line of Aaron. There’s good reason to believe that these two “anointed olive branches” would usher in all the predictions of earlier prophets. 

Will this be the beginning of the messianic age? We’ll get a mixed answer on that from Zechariah.

Let’s explore this prophetic book that, for its size, is quoted more in the Gospels than any other Old Testament book.
