Lesson Overview

This course gives an introductory perspective for the study of the prophets of the Old Testament. It dispels common misunderstandings about the prophets, provides guidelines for interpreting prophecy, and gives the student confidence to begin studying prophetic literature. The course is based on the DVD series by Dr. Richard Pratt, Jr., “He Gave Us Prophets.”

Lesson Objectives

When you complete this lesson, you should be able to:

  • Express personal thoughts regarding the nature of predictions in prophecy
  • Discuss the nature of God’s providence in relation to prophecy
  • Identify the key biblical concepts regarding divine predictions and the contingent nature of some prophecies
  • Show ways in which the teachings of this lesson have been applied to their lives
  • Explain ways in which this course so far has affected their attitude toward God’s sovereignty, toward the fulfillment of prophecy, and toward prayer
