Maybe an acrostic isn’t your “go-to” for expressing grief and doubt, but you’ve just witnessed how powerful biblical poetry can be for all our feelings . . . and all of our questions.

We’ve come to the edge of human despair with Job in his story. Habakkuk takes us to the same place in his prophetic oracles. Now Lamentations joins so many psalms of lament asking “Why?” and “How long?”  And here we’ve added to these interrogations the “unthinkable question”: “Will you abandon us forever, O Lord?!”

You can’t get any more real than this. It’s hard to imagine a theological or existential question that the Bible hasn’t already voiced.

In our next module we’ll join Ezekiel and Daniel in exile. They too will look ahead to a brighter day. In fact, Daniel will look ahead to the end of the world to get perspective on the passing of kingdoms and the suffering of God’s people. We’ll see you there!
