Behind | Dead Sea Scrolls, Part 2

The image above is of one of the jars discovered in cave 1 at Qumran. The scrolls were stored in these clay jars to protect them from water or other damage. Notice that this jar was reconstructed from shattered pieces.

The image above is the Great Isaiah Scroll. It is the largest scroll found in Qumran measuring over 24 feet long. The scroll contains the entire book of Isaiah with the exception of sections lost to deterioration (mainly along the edges of the scroll). This scroll is dated to the first century bc.
