Before we forge on into our New Testament courses, we want to get a higher view of the geographical, historical and religious background landscape. How different is this world than the world we left in the Old Testament? What new empires will cast a shadow over the Promised Land? What events will take place in the same regions we’ve learned about, but now shape the ministry of the Messiah and the life of the Early Church? And what should we make of the many forms of Judaism in the 1st century, and how Jesus and the apostles ministered in that environment?
We have an extraordinary journey ahead of us. But first we’ll sketch out a map in this module, orient you to the major landmarks and give you some tools that will help you on the path ahead.
If this is your first course in the Bible Journey curriculum, you must first visit the Journey Prep page to understand the background, history, and terminology we will use in the courses.

Educational and interesting - this was a fascinating course.

This course helped as I was deficient in my understanding and ignorant about many things that would help me to correctly think through and interpret the Bible. One highlight was considering the different groups who challenged Jesus, their focus and their beliefs.
-
An excellent course!

Praise the Lord. To understand the text of the Bible, the context is important.
