Lesson Overview

Lesson 6 examines leadership lessons learned from Ahaziah, Athaliah, Joash, and Jehoiada. In this lesson, you will gain wisdom from studying the evil reigns of King Ahaziah and Queen Athalia. You will also explore what we can learn from King Joash’s earliest days and how his mentor, Jehoiada, assisted in his ascension to the throne.

Lesson Objectives

When you complete this lesson, you should be able to do the following:

  • Discuss lessons learned from Ahaziah, Athaliah, Joash, and Jehoiada.
  • Understand how important it is for righteous leadership to refuse to be manipulated.
  • Explain what righteous disobedience is and how it is a positive trait in a true leader.
  • Realize that leaders are sometimes hidden until the right time.
  • Understand the important role mentorship plays in leadership.
Personal Reflection

As you proceed through this lesson have the following question in mind.
King Ahaziah was manipulated into following his evil mother. Have you ever felt you were being manipulated to follow others you shouldn’t? How did you respond? What were the results?
