Wrap-Up

This history reveals so much about the Jewish community. There were many different sects, all with different ideas and expectations. And these differences were enough to fight over. In fact, what you now know about these groups makes it possible to understand how the crucifixion of Jesus came about on a Roman cross with the support of the Jewish ruling course in power at the time. We’ll explore more of that in a later module, but in the next lesson let’s explore these groups further by looking at the vast and fascinating literature we now have available for this period.
