Maybe the way the Bible is intertextually hyperlinked is pretty interesting to you. It is like a mystery that’s being solved before your eyes. But then there were so many people who didn’t recognize Jesus. It makes you wonder why, doesn’t it? Maybe one reason is that people associated royalty with rulership more than service. Like those in the parable who wanted to control the vineyard rather than submit to its owner, most people refused to respect the Son, and instead became violent with Him. That’s a sobering lesson about the calling to serve for all of us. Without service, authority is a dangerous thing for ourselves and for others.
